As all of my guitars are one off, I spend a lot of time trying to decide what combinations of binding and purfling to use.
On the Tineo guitar I have used Australian blackwood with a black purfling detail. I chose the blackwood because it is almost brown in colour and, like the Tineo it has a lot of chatoyance. This guitar is going to be french polished and I think that will bring out the rich depth in colour of both woods. A simple black contrast line helps to contrast the two woods.
The other two guitars are using ebono. I really like using ebano for binding because it is much easier to work with than ebony and under a french polish finish looks identical to ebony. I have tried using ebano for fingerboards before but I feel its too soft, I only use it for aesthetic parts of the guitar and never structural. Simple black and white purfling lines help to contrast the wood choices.
