For me, it all starts with the wood selection. I am always searching for unique and beautiful pieces of wood that have the potential to become musical instruments. I use a combination of imported exotic hardwoods, domestically grown woods and reclaimed woods. Every piece of wood is individual and I allow the weight, stiffness, grain orientation and appearance to guide the building process for each guitar. The weight and stiffness determine the most suitable body shape and style of guitar. The appearance of the wood is then highlighted or complimented by the choice of purfling and binding woods.
I studied acoustic guitar design and construction at Timeless instruments school of lutherie in Saskatchewan Canada in 2017 and have since been building guitars from my workshop in Bristol. All aspects of design, construction and finishing of my guitars is carried out in house by myself, Kris Richmond.
